Thousands In D.C. Protest Recent Police-Involved Shootings

WASHINGTON (WJZ) -- There were several protests against police brutality held across the country on Thursday night. The frustrations outside the White House were obvious, WJZ's Rick Ritter reports.

"I'm tired. I don't know what else to say, but I'm tired of being sad," one protester said.

That outrage and disgust comes after two police-involved shootings were caught on camera.

In Minnesota, Philando Castile was gunned down by an officer in his car. The aftermath was streamed live by a passenger.

Before Castile, Alton Sterling was shot to death by police outside a convenience store in Baton Rouge.

Some say they're even worried for their own lives now.

Thursday's protest started with hundreds outside the White House, before growing to thousands, who stormed through the streets of D.C. to Capitol Hill to make their voices heard.

"That disgusts me when I see kids getting gunned down by the cops," said Louis Porteous.

Protestors say -- enough talking -- they want something to be done.

"It takes mandates, it takes police changes that have to take place," one protestor said.

They are demanding the Department of Justice take a hard look at ways to better police nationwide.

"People need to listen, and listening produces the actions. If you listen, you will know what to do," one protestor said.

"We're all human beings. If we don't work together, we're all doomed," said Porteous.

There is no word on any protests that are scheduled in D.C. for the weekend, but there are some scheduled in Baltimore for Friday night.
