This Week: There's More 1D Drama & Hip-Hop Beats The Beatles

This week, there's more One Direction drama and apparently hip-hop is bigger than the Beatles.

1. 1D Drama

Thus far singer Zayn Malik's departure from his former One Direction bandmates hasn't been a pretty one. This week was no different.

The former 1D singer isn't too hapy with one ex-bandmate in particular: Louis Tomlinson. Tomlinson took to twitter this week to make comments about a picture of Malik and producer Naughty Boy, posting "Remember when you were 12 and you used to think those Mac filters for your pictures were cool haha! Some people still do HA!"

This didn't make Naughty Boy too happy and after a flurry of tweets between the producer and Tomlinson, Malik eventually responded with "remember when you had a life and stopped making bitchy comments about mine?"

2. Hip-hop vs. The Beatles

In a recent study out of London, it was discovered that rap and hip-hip may have a bigger impact on music than the Beatles did. In the study from University of London and Imperial College, 17,000 songs were analyzed from three distinct musical revolutions: the 1991 rise of rap, the 1983 new wave of synthesizers and the early 1960s British invasion.

Using 30-second snippets of the 17,000 song from the Billboard Hot 100 between 1960 and 2010, researchers were able to conclude that rap was "the single most important event that has shaped the musical structure of the American charts in the period we studied."

Hmm, so Kanye West is a bigger deal than John Lennon? Let the great debates start!

3. Get Well Soon Smith

GRAMMY-winning artist Sam Smith has cancelled several American tour dates including the Billboard Music Awards and Red Nose Day due to a vocal cord hemorrhage. A doctor has advised the singer to undergo suspension microlaryngoscopy surgery, an operation that will take Smith out of commission for six to eight weeks.

In press release to fans, Smith stated: "Dear all: I am very upset to announce I have been battling to get my vocal cords better the last 10 days but unfortunately they haven't recovered and I am going to need surgery."

4. Royal Baby #2

It officially happened! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, also known as Prince William and Kate, and baby Prince George welcomed a baby girl at 8:34 a.m. (3:34 a.m. ET) on May 2.

The baby girl is named Charlotte, a nod to her grandfather Prince Charles. Her middle names, Elizabeth Diana, are in honor of Queen Elizabeth II and the late Princess Diana who would be the infant's grandmother.

Welcome to the world Princess Charlotte!

5. Testimony

Kylie Jenner is set to tell us all what we already know: her lips are enhanced. According to E!, the 17-year-old reality star will confess to having lip injections done.

The teen star allegedly had the injections because of an "insecurity of hers."
