Terps Hold Welcome Back Rally After Team Advances To Sweet 16

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- How sweet it is! The University of Maryland men's basketball team stays alive in March Madness---the team is advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time in more than a decade.

Marcus Washington has more on all the excitement.

The Terps have advanced to the Sweet 16 and it's all people can discuss at College Park. It's a first for the team in 13 years.

"It's freaking amazing," said one student. "This is the first time in a long time."

Everyone has been talking about the win over Hawaii, taking the team to the next round in the NCAA tournament.

"It's definitely exciting," said a student. "It's a really cool thing to be a part of."

It didn't take WJZ long to find excited students.

"Unreal, unreal, unreal," said one. "We're going all the way. We're beating Kansas; we're taking them all down."

Terps fans say they're not worried about taking on Kansas on Thursday.

"It's also really awesome because we're seniors and it's happening our senior year so it's a really good way to end the semester and our time in Maryland," said one student.

Fans say they're not worried about taking on Kansas.

"We just need to come out swinging," said one student.

The excitement will continue to build as the men's team anticipate their performance in the Sweet 16.

Maryland will face #1 seed Kansas in Louisville, Kentucky, on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. and you can see that game right here on WJZ.
