Terps Fans Overjoyed At Victory Over Wisconsin

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- March madness! It may still be February but excitement is building for this year's University of Maryland basketball team. Fans stormed the court as Maryland defeated the number one team in the Big 10. The win boosts Maryland's hopes for making the NCAA tournament for the first time under head coach Mark Turgeon.

Marcus Washington has the growing buzz on campus.

Fans are excited on the campus of the University of Maryland---fans and students are all excited.

A big win is exactly what University of Maryland fans waited and wanted to see.

"It was kind of sad because I wasn't there," said a student. "But it was really cool to watch our team upset the number five ranked team in the nation."

The talk on campus was all about the win.

At the end of the game, a lot of fans ran onto the court.

"I was not one of them; there were so many people there; they beat me to it," said a fan.

#14 ranked Terps slam-dunked the win over #5 ranked Wisconsin.

"People questioned where we'd be this far in the season. Just to see that we've come this far, I couldn't be happier. I'm so proud to be a Terp," said a fan.

No matter the language or the print, everyone is showing and buying their Terps pride.

Tuesday's win against Wisconsin wasn't just big for the basketball team and the athletic department---students say it was a huge win for the university as a whole.

"When our athletic teams are doing so well and we're ranked so high, it creates more exposure for us. Students see that we're such an exciting atmosphere and we're doing so well and they want to come here," said an official.

Students hope the excitement carries over into the game against Michigan on Saturday.
