Tennessee Teacher Who Disappeared With 15-Year-Old Student Arrested

BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP) — A 50-year-old Tennessee teacher who disappeared last month with a student has been arrested, and the student has been found, as well.

The Tennessean reports the pair were found in a remote area of northern California after the teacher's car was located.

Tad Cummins and 15-year-old Elizabeth Thomas were reported missing on March 13. The last confirmed sighting of the pair was two days later at an Oklahoma City Wal-Mart.

Police had issued an Amber alert for Thomas, saying they had warrants charging Cummins with sexual contact with a minor and aggravated kidnapping.

Cooper also said Cummins left a note for his wife before disappearing, but officials think it was a diversion to mislead the investigation.

The teacher's wife of 31 years has filed for divorce. Court records show that Jill Cummins sued her missing husband on the grounds of irreconcilable differences and inappropriate marital conduct. She works for the Maury County school system and the couple has two children together.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tweeted the news Thursday, and are planning an afternoon press conference.

This story will be updated as more details become available.
