Teen Killed In Single-Car Crash In Elkridge

ELKRIDGE, Md. (AP) — Howard County police say an unlicensed teen driver was killed when he lost control of an SUV on a curve in Elkridge and crashed.

Police said in a statement that 16-year-old Yash Mitul Shah of Ellicott City was driving an Infinity QX60 southbound on Landing Road around 5 a.m. Sunday, when he lost control on a curve. The SUV went off the road and hit several trees and a utility pole.

Police say Shah was pronounced dead on the scene. They say a passenger, 17-year-old Manav Amvrish Trivedi of Hanover, was taken to Howard County General Hospital with injuries that aren't thought to be life-threatening. No one else was in the vehicle.

Police say Shah was not licensed and investigators believe speed may have contributed to the crash.
