Teen Charged With Cruelty In Shooting That Killed Girl, 3

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A teenager has been charged with child cruelty after a shooting that killed a 3-year-old girl inside an apartment in southeast Washington.

Police have said that another child was playing with a gun when it fired and fatally wounded 3-year-old Dalis Cox on July 29.

Police announced Thursday that a 17-year-old boy was arrested Monday on a custody order and charged with first-degree child cruelty.

The gun used in the slaying was not a registered firearm and police haven't said how the teenager got it.
