Suspicious Discovery Made During Search For Missing Relisha Rudd

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WJZ) -- Search crews looking for Relisha Rudd make a suspicious discovery.

A volunteer dive team from New Jersey found a plastic bag during their search of the Anacostia River today.

According to WUSA9, the bag was the type of evidence they were looking for.

"I was shocked that it was right there," Jerry Boylan, Captain of the Garden State Underwater Recovery Unit, told WUSA9.

The team was asked by a family friend of the girl to search the area where dogs tracked her scent last October.

In March 2014, 8-year-old Relisha disappeared while staying with her family at a homeless shelter in DC.

Relisha's suspected kidnapper was a janitor at the shelter.

He committed suicide, but she was never found.
