Suspicious Activity Puts 4 Schools On Lockdown In Westminster

WESTMINSTER, Md. (WJZ) -- Four schools were on lockdown in Carroll County Tuesday morning as a police investigated a threat outside the school.

According to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to William Winchester and West Middle School after a call was received about a safety threat outside the building. Three other schools nearby were put on lockdown including Westminster Elementary, East Middle and St. John Catholic School.

According to the Carroll County Times, the following message was sent to all William Winchester and West Middle parents by Carroll County Public Schools:
"This morning the administration of William Winchester Elementary School received a phone call indicating a safety threat outside of the building. As a precautionary measure, we have placed both William Winchester and West Middle School on lockdown. We are working with local law enforcement to investigate the threat and will keep you updated as the investigation continues. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our first priority."

The Sheriff's Office tweeted that school operations had returned to normal around 12:25 p.m.
