Suspected DUI Driver Crashes Into Trooper's Vehicle In Maryland

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A Maryland State trooper was nearly struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop on the side of the road on Saturday morning.

It happened just before 7:00 a.m. on the northbound lane of I-270.

Authorities say while the trooper was conducting a traffic stop, a man driving a Ford Fusion drove onto the shoulder of the road and struck the trooper's vehicle and a Honda Odyssey.

The trooper was forced to break open the window of the Ford Fusion to rescue the driver after the vehicle flipped onto its side during the crash.

State Police say a "strong odor of alcohol" was detected on the breath of the driver. He was transported to an area to be evaluated by medical personnel.

No other people were injured in the crash.
