PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Authorities say a man has been taken into custody after an early morning stabbing that critically injured a woman and a baby in north Philadelphia.

A police spokeswoman says Stephen Burton was taken into custody in Maryland Sunday, but no additional information was available.
Officers were called to the West Oak Lane neighborhood just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday where they found a 37-year-old woman and a 21-month-old girl with stab wounds.

A spokeswoman said the woman was taken to a hospital with stab wounds all over her body and listed in critical condition.

The baby was taken to a hospital with a stab wound in the chest and was also in critical condition.

Police had said they were looking for a 41-year-old man who fled after the stabbing.
