Suspect Opens Fire On Off-Duty Maryland Sheriff, Authorities Say

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WJZ)— At least one suspect opened fire on a Prince George's County Sheriff's Deputy during an attempted robbery incident early Sunday morning.

It happened around 1:50 a.m. in the 10500 block of Campus Way South in Largo, Maryland.

Authorities say the deputy was off-duty and not in his uniform when he was approached by at least one suspect wearing a mask and armed with a handgun. The suspect announced a robbery and opened fire on the deputy. Authorities say the deputy, who was armed with his duty weapon, returned fire as the suspects fled in a vehicle.

No one was injured in the incident.

The Prince George's County Sheriff's Office and the Prince George's County Police Department are searching for the suspects at this time. Anyone with any information is asked to call authorities at 301-780-7354.

The deputy has been placed on routine administrative leave.
