Suspect Dies While In Custody of the Ocean City Police Department

OCEAN CITY, Md. (WJZ)—Police in Ocean City say a suspect has died while in their custody following a narcotics arrest earlier Sunday morning.

Authorities say around 12:24 a.m. Sunday they conducted a traffic stop in the unit block of 8th Street.

Officers on the scene say they recovered 1,500 small bags of heroin and additional narcotics after searching the vehicle. Three individuals were later arrested in the incident.

Around 2:30 a.m. police say one of the suspects, identified as Jerry Weston 37, of Delaware, complained of trouble breathing while at the Ocean City Public Safety Building booking facility. Emergency crews were called however Weston went into cardiac arrest upon their arrival, police say. Weston was transported to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD where he was later pronounced dead.

A medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The Ocean City Police Department say they are continuing their investigation.
