Superintendent Of Catoctin Mountain Park Retiring

THURMONT, Md. (AP) -- The superintendent of Catoctin Mountain Park near Thurmont is retiring.

Sixty-four-year-old Mel Poole tells The Frederick News-Post he'll retire from the National Park Service Aug. 25.

Poole's 37-year career includes the last 18 as superintendent of the park that surrounds the Camp David presidential retreat.

He says one of his colleagues told him after he was selected for the job that Catoctin Mountain Park is the crown jewel of the agency's National Capital Region.
