Sunshine returns to Maryland Wednesday; cooler to close the week

Sunshine returns to Maryland Wednesday

Maryland Tonight: Coastal Low Pulls Away, Skies Gradually Clear

Tonight, a dry cold front approaches from the northwest, bringing cooler and much less humid air. Lows will fall into the mid and upper 40s west of the Baltimore metro and the low 50s near and east of the Bay.

Maryland Midweek: Dry Cold Front Ushers in a Cool, Breezy Wednesday
A moisture-starved front will move through Maryland during the day Wednesday. Skies remain mostly sunny to partly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s to near 70 for Baltimore and areas north, and into the low-to-mid 70s toward southern Maryland. Northwest winds may gust around 20 mph through the afternoon. Behind the front, drier air filters in quickly, setting the stage for a chilly Wednesday night.

Overnight lows drop into the 30s and 40s across much of central Maryland, with the coldest readings expected in northern and western suburbs. Places like Hampstead, Westminster, Eldersburg, and northern Montgomery County could dip to the mid-30s by daybreak Thursday. However, lingering light northwest winds may limit widespread frost formation—keeping any frost patchy and confined mainly to sheltered valleys.

Maryland Late Week: Ideal Frost Setup Thursday Night Into Friday Morning
Thursday brings a classic crisp autumn day across Maryland—bright sunshine, dry air, and highs in the low-to-mid 60s. Winds will be lighter than Wednesday but could still gust near 20 mph at times. Fire weather conditions may need to be watched if humidity drops further.

By Thursday night, high pressure settles directly over the Mid-Atlantic, allowing skies to go clear and winds to go calm. This will be the coldest night of the week. Lows are expected to fall into the mid-30s across much of the Baltimore metro's outlying suburbs and rural areas, with low 40s in the city itself and near the Bay. This setup strongly favors widespread frost west and north of the city—especially across Carroll, Frederick, and northern Baltimore counties. Areas such as Reisterstown, Sparks, Manchester, and parts of Howard County near Glenwood or Dayton are likely to see frost on rooftops and lawns early Friday morning.

Within the urban core of Baltimore and immediate waterfront areas, the urban heat island will likely prevent frost formation, though some cooler pockets of northeast and west Baltimore could briefly flirt with upper-30s temperatures.

Maryland Weekend and Early Next Week: Warming Trend, Then Rain Returns
Friday stays sunny and seasonably cool, with highs in the upper 60s. The high shifts offshore by Saturday, bringing a gradual warm-up as winds turn southwest. Clouds increase later Saturday ahead of another cold front.

By Sunday, that front approaches from the Great Lakes, bringing the next chance for showers and possibly a thunderstorm across Maryland. Rain may linger into early Monday before cooler, drier air returns to start the week. Temperatures fall back below normal again Monday, signaling another round of crisp autumn weather behind the front.
