BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- An investigation done by our media partners, The Baltimore Sun, shows the Baltimore Police Department is on pace to exceed its $17 million overtime budget by nearly $30 million.

The Sun investigation found that Baltimore PD is spending nearly $1 million a week on overtime.

Officials say the rising costs are due to staffing shortages, as the department has seen the number of police officers cut, and have been unable to hire officers to replace them.

The recent indictment of seven officers showed problems with excessive overtime pay, as one of the things they are accused of doing was clocking overtime hours while not actually being on the job.
