Students Call For Greater Input In Baltimore Schools, Budget
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Some Baltimore students are calling for more input in school system policies and better treatment by school police officers.
Dozens of students from City College high school and other schools staged a protest Friday. The protest led to a brief closure of the Jones Falls Expressway's North Avenue entrance.
Police say one person was arrested, but they declined to identify the person.
City College student Makayla Gilliam-Price told The Baltimore Sun that students want input on the school district's budget and how police are trained.
The students marched down several streets and to the school board offices to lie down in the lobby.
A school system official told the students that officials support involvement and dialogue with students and parents. By early afternoon, some students headed back to class.
