The weekend begins with freezing temperatures in Maryland

A strong storm system brought widespread rain and gusty winds across the Mid-Atlantic. The impact from this system is lessening Friday evening. 

A Wind Advisory has been extended until 10 p.m. on Friday for parts of Maryland. 

Winds reached severe levels on Friday

A wind gust of 68 MPH was measured in Harrisburg, 55 MPH in Westminster and 52 MPH at BWI. Additional bursts of gusty winds will continue through sunset. Winds may occasionally gust up to 55 MPH. 

Spotty power outages and some tree damage are possible. Flight delays are also possible across the region, due to the gusty conditions. 

Temperatures quickly drop back through the 40s and into the 30s this evening. Bundle up if you have evening plans.

Temperatures below freezing to start this weekend

Temperatures bottom-out in the mid to upper 20s early Saturday morning. A persistent breeze will make it feel like it is in the teens. 

Saturday's forecast includes sunshine, but it'll remain chilly. Temperatures peak in the upper 30s and lower 40s on Saturday afternoon; mid-40s in downtown Baltimore. 

Saturday evening will be another cold one. The forecast remains dry under increasing clouds. 

Temperatures briefly warm back into the mid to upper 40s on Sunday afternoon. A couple of brief rain showers are possible ahead of another front. Temperatures drop back closer to the freezing mark during the Ravens' home game. Kickoff is at 8:20 p.m. It'll feel like it's in the 20s, with a breeze blowing. 

Wintry mix, snow showers possible early next week

Following a fresh blast of cold weather, a sneaky storm system will approach Maryland on Monday.

A light and scattered wintry mix is possible Monday evening through sunrise on Tuesday. No wintry accumulation is expected locally. But accumulating snow is likely across portions of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The forecast remains seasonably chilly, with a chance of rain showers on Christmas Day.
