Storm Brings First Substantial Snowfall To Western Maryland

GRANTSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The season's first significant snowfall is coating the mountains of far western Maryland in white.

The National Weather Service says the storm Monday could drop 1 to 3 inches of powdery snow in the higher elevations of Garrett County. Flurries were also spotted around Baltimore and on the Eastern Shore.

State Highway Administration spokesman David Buck says moderate snowfall Monday morning is not sticking to Interstate 68 in western Maryland.

He says no problems have been reported on side roads in the region.

Buck says the snow appears to be a minor event for drivers.

The Wisp ski resort in McHenry reports that 2 inches of snow have fallen so far there this season. The area typically gets 100 inches of snow from late fall to early spring.
