The Ravens new deal with Joe Flacco will save them about $6 million against this year's cap. By dropping his number from $28.5 to 22.5 million, the Ravens now have about $9 million in space.
That puts them 25 out of 32 teams, which doesn't sound very good. However, I did a lot of digging, and maybe you don't want to have the most space. The Jaguars have the most space with about $76 million. The Raiders are next with $74 million.
The top 9 teams have two things in common: a lot of space and they all missed the playoffs last year. In fact, 13 of the 14 teams with the most space missed the playoffs last year.
Moral of the story: having a lot of space probably means you stink. The Ravens historically don't have a lot of space and are very good. So, I think I will take their philosophy.
