State Police Employee Slams Into Trooper Conducting Stop Along I-95

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—A state trooper was injured while he was conducting a traffic stop along I-95 on Wednesday afternoon in Howard County.

It happened around 3:00 p.m. between Rt.175 and Rt. 32.

Police say Trooper Wing Tong was conducting a traffic stop when a Ford appeared to be displaying improper license plates. A preliminary investigation has revealed that while Trooper Tong was parked along the right shoulder of the road, a Mercury left the roadway striking the trooper's car and the Ford, sending Trooper Tong into a guardrail.

Police say the Mercury was driven by a 65-year-old woman who is currently a civilian employee with the Maryland State Police Department. The vehicle was also registered with the department. The woman was injured during the accident and was transported to Howard County General Hospital.

A third driver was also injured in the incident, police said. All three victims are expect to survive.

Southbound I-95 was closed for several hours while the crash was being investigated.

No charges have been filed at this time.
