State Police Warn Of New Phone Scam Demanding Money

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Maryland State Police are warning residents of a new phone scam.

The suspect is calling people from a phone that spoofs the Waterloo Barracks number and demands money from citizens to avoid arrest.

That number is 410-799-2101. According to police, the caller will say that money is owed for outstanding court or traffic fines and that money must immediately be paid to avoid arrest.

If you receive a call from that number and someone warns you that you need to pay money or be arrested, police say you should hang up. They ask that you call 410-799-2101---which is the barrack's phone number---and report the call.

Police say so far, it doesn't look like anyone has paid the caller.

The incident is under investigation.
