State Holding Workshops On Applying For Trail-building Funds

EDGEWATER, Md. (AP) -- It's not too soon to think about hiking and biking, and the Maryland Department of Transportation wants to help.

The agency is holding a workshop Thursday in Edgewater to tell local government officials  and nonprofit organizations how to apply for some of the $14 million in grants available this year for projects that enhance access to walking, biking and recreational trails.

Another workshop is scheduled March 15 in Rockville.

The state's 20-Year Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, adopted in 2014, has goals that include building connected networks, improving safety and designing trails for everyone.
