MIDDLETOWN, Md. (AP) — Maryland Agriculture Secretary Joe Bartenfelder has a sweet assignment.

He's visiting two creameries in Western Maryland Wednesday afternoon to promote the Maryland's Best Ice Cream Trail.

The department says in a statement that Bartenfelder and Deputy Secretary Jim Eichhorst are visiting the South Mountain Creamery near Middletown and Misty Meadows Farm Creamery near Smithsburg.

The farm-based creameries are among nine statewide that make up the 2016 Ice Cream Trail. All of them make ice cream for sale to consumers at the farm.

The creameries also offer passports that visitors can use to record their visits. Completed passports can be entered into a drawing that features a grand prize of a $50 gift certificate to the creamery of your choice.
