Springtime In Paris: Women's Only Event Pairs Food With French Wine

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (WJZ)—With the winter we've had, spring can't come soon enough.

Now, as Mike Schuh reports, a restaurant has an idea to make the first day of spring memorable for a room full of women.

"The big idea is a night out for women to enjoy great food, great wine and each other," said Laurie Forster.

She'd know. Forster is a noted wine author and speaker.

She's set up a women's only night of food and wine at the Oregon Grille in Cockeysville and calls it The Women's Wine Club.

"Well, these are the dishes we're going to have at our dinner. It's called Springtime in Paris," Forster said.

And of course, French wine.

"So we have a Chateau Milon Saint-Emilion; it's from the right bank of Bordeaux," Forster said.

She's found many are intimidated by wine, especially French wine. So to make things easier, she and the owner of the Oregon Grille are pairing food and wine, so you can taste what works and know why.

"We have about a thousand different bottles of different wine here. We just want to educate people about what we have and have them enjoy an evening of fine food and wine," said Ted Bauer, Oregon Grille owner.

Lamb is the main course.

"This is a full bodied red with a little bit of tannin," Forster said.

If you want the rest of her amazingly easy to understand explanation, you have to come to the dinner, which has five courses with wines to match.  And you'll learn the term wine sandwich: drink, eat and drink again.

"It's time away from the kids, your husband, with your girlfriend. I'm sorry, that's priceless," Forster said.

The event is next Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The cost: $85. Spots are still available. For more information, click here.
