South Carroll High School Lockdown Lifted

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- South Carroll High School in Carroll County was briefly placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon for a student prank, according to the school system spokeswoman Carey Gaddis.

Some type of oil was put on the floors of the school's hallways, which prompted a two-hour mandate that students stay in their classrooms.

Gaddis says it's unclear if the prank was done by seniors, who graduate next week, but she says it is the type of thing schools tend to see at the end of the school year.

Rumors that dead animals were involved in the prank are untrue, according to Gaddis.

The initial lockdown alert came at around noon. School officials said at that time that it was due to vandalism, but that there was "no threat made from outside of the building."

School officials are now looking into who was responsible for the prank.
