6 Suspects Remain At-Large Following Police Investigation In S. Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- More than a dozen people are facing charges, as city police crackdown on guns, drugs, and other violent crime in South Baltimore. While several suspects are in custody, six remain at-large.

Fourteen people have been indicted in a case connected to the South Baltimore community of Brooklyn.

Police now say they're turning to the public for help when they couldn't catch all the suspects.

The south Baltimore neighborhood has been a headache for Baltimore City Police because of concentrated crime.

"This very small geography was disproportionately responsible for the violence in our city, so we had to do something about it," says Baltimore City Police Commissioner Kevin Davis.

On Monday, in what should have been a major win, Commissioner Davis announced 14 people were indicted on drug distribution and conspiracy charges, but only eight suspects are in custody.

Police say these six other suspects are still on the loose.

Police believe the suspects are behind a string of violent crime in less than a 20-block radius that includes homicides, robberies, carjackings, and shootings.

"Some days during the nice days I walk home, so just watching my back hoping that it's safe from me to get to and from work."

So far in 2017, there have been at least 151 homicides in the city, but this one neighborhood of Brooklyn has had at least seven of those homicides.

"Now some people in this South Baltimore community agree with the commissioner in saying there are a string of factors that contribute to this crime."

Councilman Ed Reisinger represents the district. He says citizens are stepping up and speaking out.

"I'm glad that it happened, it's about time. The communities of Brooklyn and Curtis Bay have been seized by prostitution, drug dealers, crime in those two communities," he says.

One business owner is just days away from opening a church in the neighborhood and says the gap between generations needs to be bridged.

"But we as a community have to step up, the household has to step up. We could put the on everyone else, but it starts at home," says Antonio McDuffie.

Dequan Cheatham, 31, Dayquan Givens, 21, Carl Griffin, 25, Antione Lucas, 38, Horace Montgomery, 49, Lance Parker, 32, Crystal Whye, 33, and Adrian Worrell, 33, have been taken into custody.

Police are still searching for John Goodman, 29, Corey, Jones, 30, Troy Matthews, 30, Jonathan McFadden, 26. Christopher Miller, 25, and Everett Washington, 47.

State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby stresses that the suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Police say the suspects have not yet been charged with any acts of violence.
