Orioles Release RHP Miguel Gonzalez

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- The Orioles have given RHP Miguel Gonzalez his unconditional release.

According to our media partner, The Baltimore Sun, Gonzalez will be on release waivers for the next 48 hours. If no team claims him, he will become a free agent.

The 31-year-old posted a 9.78 ERA in seven spring training outings. He allowed one run over five innings of work in his final start on Tuesday.

Gonzalez was a key piece to the Orioles' starting rotation for the past three-plus seasons. His results caught up to him in 2015.

Dealing with groin issues, Gonzalez ended his final season with the Orioles with a 9-12 record and a 4.91 ERA.

Cutting Gonzalez opens the door for Tyler Wilson or Mike Wright to crack the Opening Day rotation.
