Winter weather returns to Maryland after a pleasant weekend

Rainy weather in Maryland Thursday before spring-like weekend weather

Scattered rain is moving through Maryland this afternoon and early evening. Rain may mix with wet snowflakes or a few sleet pellets, especially northwest of Baltimore.

Damp weather sweeping through central Maryland

Scattered rain showers are moving through central and northern Maryland.

As rain begins, temperatures are quickly dropping back into the upper 30s and lower 40s. This trend will continue eastward. As the first few drops of rain fall, temperatures will cool. A few snowflakes or sleet pellets may mix in with the rain through early evening.

Temperatures remain steady in the upper 30s and lower 40s through sunset, before dropping back into the upper 20s and lower 30s as the forecast dries out overnight. No widespread slick travel issues are expected tonight or tomorrow morning.

Areas of fog are possible tonight, into early Friday. The last day of the workweek begins with temperatures in the upper 20s and lower 30s.

Sunshine will send temperatures into the upper 40s and 50s by the middle of the afternoon. It's shaping up to be a very nice Friday.

Beautiful Saturday is in Baltimore's forecast

Saturday is going to be nearly perfect, weather-wise, and certainly the pick day of the weekend. Temperatures soar well into the 50s, under lots of sunshine. A few spots could reach 60° by late afternoon, with a breeze and dry forecast. Get outside and enjoy it!

Sunday trends cooler and cloudier, with a low chance of a few light showers close to the Pennsylvania state line. Temperatures peak in the 40s and lower 50s across our region on Sunday afternoon.

Wintry weather returns as we begin a new workweek.

Snow, wintry mix will impact Maryland early next week

Much colder air blows into Maryland Sunday night, into early Monday ahead of our next chance of wintry weather.

Two waves of wintry weather are possible between Monday morning and Tuesday night. The first wave on Monday should primarily fall as snow. There may be a lull early Tuesday, followed by a wave of wintry mix changing to a cold rain. Both days are tagged as Possible First Alert Weather Days. Temperatures may remain below freezing on Monday afternoon. Weather may impact plans and travel.

The First Alert Weather Team will be fine-tuning the forecast over the next few days as all the pieces involved in this wintry weather setup come into focus. We'll pass along updates on WJZ, streaming and online.
