Shotgun Blast Leads To Carroll Co. Man's Arrest

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ) -- An aimless shotgun blast that rattled a Taneytown neighborhood Monday led to a Carroll County man's arrest, authorities said.

Ted William Rill, 27, of Taneytown, is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and related charges in connection to the incident, according to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

Someone called 911 at some point Monday afternoon when Rill was seen staggering down the road in the 4000 block of Old Taneytown Road. While the caller waited for medics to arrive, an agitated Rill went inside a home and returned with a shotgun, which he allegedly fired once into the air.

The caller and other witnesses then took cover in their vehicles and Rill went back inside, according to the Sheriff's Office.

No one was hurt.

Deputies, troopers and police arrived just after 5 p.m. and took Rill, who is banned from having firearms due to previous offenses, into custody. During his arrest, they found he had prescription medication for which he was not prescribed along with a small amount of what they believe to be marijuana.

At last check, Rill remained in custody at the Carroll County Detention Center.
