Severn Man Gets 50 Years In 2012 Near-Fatal Shooting

BALTIMORE (AP) -- An Anne Arundel County man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison in the near-fatal shooting of a man who spent four months in a coma, was hospitalized for a year and underwent 21 surgeries.

Prosecutors say 25-year-old Kelly Gross of Severn was sentenced Tuesday in Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Gross' attorney, David Mabrey, did not return a call for comment Wednesday.

Prosecutors say in May 2012, Gross got in an occupied car in Baltimore, pulled a gun and said he was robbing the driver and his passenger. When Gross realized the victims didn't have any money or valuables, prosecutors say he opened fire, shooting the driver repeatedly in the torso and limbs.

A jury found Gross guilty of first-degree assault, armed robbery and other charges in July.
