Senate Again Delays Veto Override Vote On Felons Voting Bill

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Senate has again delayed a vote to override Gov. Larry Hogan's veto of a bill that would allow felons to vote while they are on parole or probation.

The Senate decided Friday to put the vote off until Tuesday. It's the second time the Senate has postponed a close vote.

The Senate needs a three-fifths vote, or 29 out of 47 senators, to override the veto. The bill passed with 29 votes last year. However, one supporter retired, and the vacancy was only filled this week.

Three senators were absent during Friday's session.

Republican minority leaders opposed the postponement, saying the matter has been before the chamber for weeks. But Democratic leadership said every senator should have a chance to vote on the important bill.
