White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer Resigns

BALTIMORE (WJZ) --White House press secretary Sean Spicer has resigned, CBS News confirmed Friday.

It happened on Friday morning, shortly after President Trump selected Anthony Scaramucci as communications director.

Spicer has taken more of a background role in the administration in recent weeks, with deputy White House Press Sarah Huckabee Sanders taking over most of the White House press briefings.

At a Friday afternoon press conference, Scaramucci said that Sanders will take over for Spicer as press secretary.

Scarmucci, who took questions at the conference, also took issue with reporters' assertion that the White House communications shop is troubled, saying the ship is headed in the "right direction."

He emphasized that he loves the president, and will do everything he can to serve him well.

Spicer tweeted that it has been his "honor & privilege to serve" the president, and that he will continue serving through August.
