Scores Jumping In Western Md. Lake To Benefit Animals

BOONSBORO, Md. (AP) -- Scores of animal lovers in western Maryland are taking a wintertime dip in a state park lake to benefit a local animal shelter.

The Humane Society of Washington County says about 170 people registered in advance for Saturday's event at Greenbrier State Park near Boonsboro. The group says it expects even more to show up and take the plunge.

Marketing Coordinator Kirk Livers says the goal is to raise at least $30,000 to support the group's work.

This is the 12th year of the event. It was held for 10 years at the Potomac River in Williamsport, and moved to Greenbrier last year.
