17 students hurt from bus crash in Anne Arundel County

A group of students suffered minor injuries after a school bus crashed into a tree in Anne Arundel County on Monday, according to police.

The crash happened around 7:35 a.m. on Generals Highway near Shawnee Court in Millersville. 

One student was taken to a hospital by their parents after the crash, and 17 other students had minor injuries, school district officials said. A total of 29 students were on the bus.

A spokesperson for the district said the students were reunited with their parents at Millersville Elementary School, and a counselor was made available for students who needed to talk. 

Generals Highway was closed in both directions Monday morning as police responded to the crash. 

Baltimore shuttle bus crash

A similar incident involving a Johns Hopkins shuttle bus sent nine people to the hospital in late April. 

The bus crashed into a building in Baltimore's Charles Village neighborhood after colliding with a car that had run a red light, according to Baltimore Police. 

The crash damaged an office building and part of an eatery on the intersection of W 25th and Charles streets.
