Police: Bus Driver Was Speeding Before Route 29 Crash That Injured 5

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ)— Police say the driver of a school bus who lost control of the vehicle and tipped it on Route 29 this morning is at fault for the crash.

Authorities say 50-year-old Tyra India Wilcox was speeding when she pulled onto northbound U.S. 29 from westbound Route 100 just before 7 a.m. and flipped on the bus on its side. The bus was then hit by a car.

Wilcox has been issued a citation for negligent driving.

Two 15-year-old Mt. Hebron High School students on the bus were transported to Johns Hopkins Hospital as a precaution with minor injuries.

Wilcox and school bus aid Jessica Blank, 44, of Columbia, were transported to Howard County General Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the other involved vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Matrix, Brad Steven Krakower, 33, of Ellicott City, was also transported to Howard County General Hospital with minor injuries.

Route 29 North was closed for approximately two hours as a result of the crash.
