Rosedale Roofing Rebuilds After Massive Fire

ROSEDALE, Md. (WJZ) -- Just a day after a massive fire darkened the sky in eastern Baltimore County, one Rosedale business is cleaning up, but grateful it wasn't a fatal fire.

The owners of a large roofing company tell Mike Schuh they are relieved no one was killed.

The smoke from Rosedale Roofing was seen for miles Monday afternoon.

The warehouse manager tried to stop it when it was still small.

"He had another man in there, they made an attempt with the fire extinguisher and etc. but it was just, just, just rapid," Tony Correlli, of Rosedale Roofing said.

The owner suspect this burned so quickly because of what was inside. Nearly all roofing supplies are flammable.

"Rubber roofing and a lot of adhesive is used in rubber roofing so that adhesive probably lit up..." said Nancy Correlli, "The place was engulfed in minutes."

"And my brother said by the time he came out here and stood and looked up here, fire was already starting to roll out," Tony added.

The owner tells me an ice maker used by workers to keep cool on the job site malfunctioned and started the blaze.

"There was smoke and then it burst into flames," Tony added.

They credit that shop manager with spotting the fire and getting everyone out.

"He got everybody out of the shop," Nancy said, "and he went running through the office and said 'Everybody out, Fire!'"

That office on the left was spared -- computers, records and files are safe.

One of the owners tells me that in some ways they feel lucky because none one their employees were hurt and none of their trucks were parked inside. They were either out jobs or parked in the parking lot.

And with their trucks and records safe, they were back in business Tuesday.

"There are people out there who have it a lot worse than we do," Tony said.

"Thank God everyone got out," Nancy added. "We're just thankful nobody got hurt."

The owners tell WJZ they are fully insured and will rebuild.
