Partial Roof Collapse Reported At Parkville Middle School

PARKVILLE, Md. (WJZ) -- A partial roof collapse was reported Monday night at Parkville Middle School.

Ron Matz has more on what crews say happened at the school.

Looks like the snow played a role in this partial roof collapse at Parkville Middle in Baltimore County Monday around 9:50 p.m.

Once on the scene crews noticed that water was coming out of the front doors of the school. They found part of the roof adjacent to the gymnasium had collapsed.

Fortunately no one was in the building, but it appears there could be some significant damage.

According to Lt. Tim Rostkowski with Baltimore County fire, school facilities are addressing the issues.

"I know that the building engineer came out overnight and determeined that portion of the school is unsafe currently for inhabitation and for school," Rostkowski said. "But the school system is now determining how severe that is and what the extent of the damages are."

About 1,000 students attend Parkville Middle, but Baltimore County Public Schools remain closed due to the snow.

An investigation continues into the cause.
