Road Work In Bethesda Follows October Water Main Break

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- Two southbound lanes of Rockville Pike in Bethesda are being shut down for repair work following a water main break in the area in October.

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission said in a statement that the shutdown in the area of Cedar Lane begins Tuesday and repairs are expected to take five to 10 days. In October, a 74-year-old pipe broke in the area, which is home to the National Institutes of Health and the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

The break snarled traffic and about 250 customers were without water while it was fixed.

No customers are expected to be without water during the planned work, which includes shoring up the road and surrounding area and replacing the curb and gutter drainage system.
