Rhode Island Avenue Metro Station Closed Through Sunday

WASHINGTON (AP) — Metro officials say the Rhode Island Avenue station will be closed through Sunday to complete an inspection and make repairs after concrete and a metal bracket fell.

Metro said in a news release that the concrete debris and bracket fell in the station Wednesday night. Repairs were made overnight and red line service resumed Thursday morning.

But officials say on Thursday night, small pieces of concrete fell about 40 away from the earlier location. The station was closed and will stay closed through Sunday as around-the-clock efforts are made for a thorough inspection and repair.

Officials say red line trains will bypass the station, and free shuttle bus service will be provided between the Rhode Island Avenue and Brookland stations.
