Rescuers Search For Missing Kayaker At Great Falls

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Rescuers from Montgomery County have been searching for a missing kayaker near Great Falls for hours.

County fire department spokesman Pete Piringer says there was a call for a boater in distress Friday about 2 p.m. A kayak and paddles were retrieved from the river about an hour later, but the boater was not found.

The search ended for the day at 6:30 p.m. but will resume on Saturday.

After heavy rains in recent days, Piringer says the Potomac River waters are high, and the current is very strong.
