Report: Michael Jordan Speaks Out Against Violence, Donates Millions to 'Achieve Change'

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Michael Jordan, one of the NBA's greatest to ever play the game, says he's tired of the country's growing racial and social unrest and is going to donate millions, according to a report by The Undefeated.

Jordan sent a one page letter exclusively to The Undefeated saying, "As a proud American, a father who lost his own dad in a senseless act of violence, and a black man, I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers…I have decided to speak out in the hope that we can come together as Americans, and through peaceful dialogue and education, achieve constructive change."

Jordan says through his effort he will be donating $1 million each to two organizations working to build trust between  law enforcement and the community:  the Institute for Community-Police Relations, which is an organization that addresses cutting edge issues confronting law enforcement through advocacy, programs and research, as well as training and other professional services.

Jordan will be also donating a $1-million to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, which is a legal organization fighting for racial justice.

Jordan's effort comes in the wake of multiple deadly shootings in recent months, against community members like Alton Sterling, and law enforcement officers including in Dallas and Louisiana.

The former NBA star is also the Chairman of the Charlotte Hornets.
