Report: Johns Hopkins Given $50K To Study Response To Baltimore Riots
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Researchers from Johns Hopkins University were authorized $50,000 on Wednesday, to conduct an "after-action review" of the city's response to the riots in Baltimore, according to our media partner The Baltimore Sun.
The Sun reports Johns Hopkins' Critical Event Preparedness and Response Office will conduct the analysis of how city agencies responded as the streets of Baltimore filled with looters and unrest following the in-custody death of Freddie Gray.
The review will not focus on police actions but on how other emergency operations were run, said Howard Libit, a spokesperson for the mayor.
"It's looking at everything outside of immediate law enforcement: fire, health department, transportation, public works, mutual assistance agreements, etc." Libit said. "We're not waiting for the final report to start making improvements."
The review is scheduled to be completed in October.
