Repairs This Week To Close U.S. Route 50 Overnight

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Repairs are underway this week on eastbound U.S. Route 50 in Annapolis as highway crews inspect and improve piping under the roadway after a collapse in early June.

The State Highway Administration is overseeing repairs this week after a three-foot sinkhole opened up on the highway earlier this month.

On Wednesday and Thursday nights beginning at 8 p.m., highway officials will close two lanes along eastbound Route 50 and then all eastbound lanes at 10 p.m. Detours will direct drivers to Aris T. Allen Boulevard. The highway will reopen by 5 a.m. after the overnight work.

No repairs are planned for Friday. If more time is needed, crews will continue repairs overnight Saturday into Sunday.

The work will restore the pipe as a storm water drain under the highway.

Rick Ritter will have more on this story at 5 and 6 p.m.
