Remains Found In Marsh IDed As Missing Woman

BERLIN, Md. (AP) -- The Worcester County Sheriff's Office says skeletal remains found by a waterman have been identified as a 77-year-old woman who went missing last year.

Officials announced Tuesday that the remains found in a marsh on the edge of Chincoteague Bay on Sunday are those of 77-year-old Helen David, who went missing over Memorial Day weekend. She was last seen walking near her home in the South Point area of Berlin.

Lt. Ed Schreier says the body was found within a half-mile of David's home and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore used dental records to make a positive identification.

Schreier says the autopsy is ongoing to determine cause and manner of death.
