More Than 141,000 Ballots Cast In Early Voting

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Board of Elections is reporting a record-high turnout of early voters in the state's primary election.

The board says 141,590 people cast votes during the early voting period that started June 12 and ended Thursday. That compares with the previous record of 77,288 set during the primary in 2010, the first year of early voting in Maryland.

The 2012 primary drew 76,124 early votes.

The state board notes that this year's primary early voting period was two days longer than in previous election years.
