Record-Breaking Pollen Levels Making Allergy Sufferers Miserable

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Spring is in the air, and so are record-breaking amounts of pollen.

This year, allergists say our area is experiencing the highest pollen levels since recording began in 1996 due to unseasonably high temperatures, gusty winds and little rain.

January's historic blizzard is also partly to blame, because all that snow melt helped plants to grow "robustly," according to allergist Dr. John Bacon.

All this adds up to bad news for allergy sufferers.

A pollen count above 100 is considered high, but Thursday's levels came in at over 5,000.
