Reaction: Ex-Ravens DT Ngata Praises Detroit Defense

If you missed Haloti Ngata's comments this week, here is what he said:

"It's exciting, man," Ngata said to the Detroit Free Press. "I've never been a part of a defense like this. You just have so many playmakers all over the front on the D-line. I'm just excited to be a part of it."

He may just be trying to take a leadership role in his new team and fill the space vacated by Ndamukong Suh but Haloti's comment is raising some eyebrows in Baltimore and maybe even ruffled some Ravens fans' feathers.

Steve Davis doesn't read too much into his words. "NO BIG DEAL. He is not a Raven anymore. He is a Lion. This is what you do, pander to your audience. His audience is now in Detroit. How many times have players come to Baltimore and said "this is the best team, or place, or fans, or coach" that I have ever had? People should not get too upset."

Jeremy Conn gives his take as well, "In my opinion, that's Haloti trying to say something nice about his team mates in a new city. I don't think he was taking a shot at the Ravens and their defense. We all have seen the Ravens defense up close and personal since Ngata was drafted and we know that the Lions couldn't carry that Ravens jock strap. It doesn't matter if it was a 4-3 or a 3-4 defense, Ngata always excelled in whatever role he was expected to play. There is a ton of athletes on that Lions defense and I do believe they will be good this year, but the Ravens defenses that Ngata was a part of were usually top 5 in the league."
