Ravens Re-Sign Chris Canty To Two-Year Deal

BALTIMORE (WJZ-FM) -- The 32 year old veteran defensive end re-signs with the Ravens, bringing with him much needed leadership on and off the field. The Baltimore Ravens announced on twitter that Canty has signed a two-year deal.

General Manager of the Ravens Ozzie Newsome had this to say about Chris Canty:

"We talked weeks ago about the possibility of Chris coming back, and we are happy he is."

There was much speculation that Canty would retire after last season. Canty even hinted at the idea of retirement himself, stating "I've been pretty banged up, so it's a situation where I'll take some time away from the game, spend some time with my family and make a decision when we have to make a decision."

In February the Ravens had released Canty in the final year of his contract due to a high cap number but Ozzie noted he could return.

Canty has been with the Ravens for two years and played in 26 games (24 starts) where he had 64 tackles, 2.5 sacks, six passes defensed and three forced fumbles. In the 2014 season alone he started in 11 games and recorded 33 tackles, 1/2 sack, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

The Ravens could use his veteran leadership in the locker room and on the field after trading Haloti Ngata on the defensive line.
