Ravens Play On Natural Grass For The First Time In 13 Years
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Back in December the Ravens announced they would be turning in the turf and stepping onto real, natural grass for the 2016 season.
Tonight, the Baltimore Ravens will step onto a grass field for the first time in thirteen years.
Baltimore had natural grass back when M&T Bank Stadium opened in 1998, but they had trouble keeping it in good condition late in the season due to sunlight restrictions. Moving forward, the Ravens plan to use artificial light to keep grass growing where the field is shaded.

The Ravens did some research over the offseason and found a strain of grass, from a sod farm in North Carolina that is a mixture of Burmuda and some rye grass that should do well in the sunny stadium.

Overall, 17 of the NFL's 32 teams play their home games on grass.
